A Christmas Story

Everyone has a memory that really stands out in their life.  My Grandfather has made a name for himself by telling stories and encouraging others to share their own. (Check out his website here.  I'm telling you it's totally worth it.)  Personally, I don't really know if I have a specific story, but I do have a song.  My sister and I were bathed and baptized in musicals, especially Christmas musicals.  White Christmas was always my favorite mostly because of the song "Sisters".  I honestly think Bing and Danny did it best.  Their version defines the relationship I have with my sister, goofy, never too serious, but always meaningful.  This song and this particular musical have a special place in my heart.  It reminds me of my family, Christmases in Massachusetts, and a lovely childhood.

Do you have a story or a song?  I'd love it if you'd share.

Our Christmas

Another Christmas has come and gone and the year is almost over! Can you believe it?? I really cannot. We had a fantastic Christmas this year. The only way to describe it is to say that we have an amazing family. My parents graciously sent us some awesome gifts. We received a beautiful set of dishes, an AMAZING food processor (which I don't have photos of) and some gift cards. I also got a Home Goods gift card from my grandparents, so watch out for that post!

I had to add one photo of my sweet doggie. We piled all the wrapping paper on him and apparently he enjoyed it. It took him awhile to get out of it.

Just Because I Promised

Admittedly these photos are not that much better, but here you go. Here's our little sparse Christmas tree!

This is a close up of my favorite part of the mantel. I'm honestly not happy with how the rest of it turned out because I had to throw it together in under ten minutes. Oh well!

We did pretty good for decorating this year on a strict budget. Those two rolls of ribbon and the red glass ornaments on the tree are from the thrift store. I probably paid under a dollar for all of it. I also did a lot of couponing from Hobby Lobby and some basic knitting. The red garland on the tree is a knitted project; it took me three days and it stretches across the house. There are a few more projects I'd like to complete but obviously time is ticking!

Happy Wednesday!

Oh Christmas tree

So I was totally going to post photos of our christmas decorations today but realized how awful the photos were. I'm going to wait until tonight so I can get some with the lights. I feel like I'm still neglecting this blog! I'm really sorry. I guess I may have writers block. All of those final papers I wrote took a toll I guess.

I made these today for the neighbors. I may have to try one just to make sure they don't taste weird. I don't mind a little quality control. Tomorrow I plan on making this with marinated boneless pork chops and maybe a loaf of homemade bread. I'm really hoping to try and work on lowering the amount of processed foods that we eat. It bothers me that we consume foods that are so doctored that they don't resemble anything natural at all. This probably will throw me into the world of homemade everything, which, during break I really don't mind. I'd like to learn to make homemade pasta, maybe some lasagna noodles? Anyway, I'll try and make a "blog segment" on my adventures into the homemade food life. I might as well get in touch with my inner 1950s housewife.

Okay, I promise quality christmas decoration photos later and maybe even a recipe or two? We'll see if you're that lucky.
